While I've never been to Georgia, I am a fan of Caucasian food. The Ruski Market-- unofficial name, in Warsaw, Poland, back in the day sported numerous traders from Europe, Asia, Africa and ex-Soviet Union (was Europe's largest outdoor market). Most of the ex-SU traders were attracted to a small kiosk on the upper deck where meats were grilled on long metal skewers. Missing my Balkan grilled meat intake, I'd grab a kebab from them at least once a week…
OK, boring story aside, Extra Sislik is damn fine. The grilled meats are tender and nicely marinated in oil, lemon and assorted spices (a break from the usual over grilled and dry meats you can come across in Belgrade-- The king Don Gezda aside;). I ordered the pork and chicken skewers and a beef kebab. Both white meats were perfectly tender and juicy which is not easy as both meats have very little fat in them (why most places will over cook them). This tells me that along with the proper understanding and use of marinate, they slow roast their meats over a medium fired grill. Now, the beef kebab was spot on fine! Perfectly spiced minced beef grilled to hold in meaty moisture. We ordered up some grilled veggies including spicy peppers, a couple of salads and some solemn bread (though they don't offer flat bread at this stage which is a pity). Each meat dish came with a refreshing spicy tomato sauce with fresh onion and cilantro.
We fed four adults and two kids for less than 2000 DIN… Though don't get me wrong, could have ordered and consumed more… But gotta prepare the body for the summer beach seating season:).
Only complaint is the dishes did not come as they look in the picture which includes flat bread and assorted garnishes… Maybe they can offer "obrok" in the near future. Anyway, will not keep us from ordering again.
Little tip, this is the same Armenia and Georgian couple behind Extra Sushi. So, if you want a mix, you can order both Sushi and Saslik and they will deliver together. Just indicate that in both orders (made at the same time of course).
